Cyrille Coulon – Arenacross

The ‘old man’ of Arenacross, SR75 World Suzuki’s Cyrille Coulon is proving that age isn’t a barrier when it comes to mixing it with the best in the Arenacross stadium.

The thirty-four-year-old father of two little boys – Zack aged 3, and Dayan 7 months – married to Armandine, has impressed all this year with his ultra-smooth, yet determined style in the early rounds of the 2017 AX championship.

‘CC’ has always been at the fore of the AX Pros, but has yet to win the championship. He has seemingly been happy to support his long-term AX racing stable-mate Thomas Ramette – the two-time AX Pro champ – sometimes at his own cost.

Son of a baker, Cyrille rode at the age of five, just for fun. He started racing competitively aged ten-years and, some years later, contested the French motocross and Supercross championships.

We caught up with the softly spoken Frenchman at the end of the third round of the AX Tour at Birmingham last Saturday to find out why he thinks he is just so good this year …

“I broke my ankle in 2015 and then took time out to let it heal. Then, last year, we contested the AX series and went on to ride almost every weekend in various supercross events, which was good for building my stamina and getting me race fit again.

“This year’s Suzuki bike is great which is obviously important. But, more than that, I feel strong. My body feels different and I have more awareness. I think I’m now looking for, and getting, the better lines and am riding more safely which ultimately means I’m smoother.

See Cyrille in action this weekend at the SSE Arena, Belfast this weekend, Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th of January.
